Medora Ventures hires John Walker Baus in New Orleans, announces fellowship program for summer 2017

NEW ORLEANS, LA, May 1, 2017 – Medora Ventures announced that John Walker Baus has been hired as an associate. He will be based in New Orleans, Louisiana, and will support clients across all three of Medora's business segments: Medora Capital, Medora Marketing, and Medora Public Affairs.

Prior, Baus served as an AmeriCorps VISTA at Propeller, a New Orleans non-profit that supports entrepreneurs as they build and grow ventures that tackle social and environmental disparities.

Medora Ventures co-founder and partner Rob Lalka stated, "John Walker worked on the team I supervised at Propeller, and throughout his year of AmeriCorps service there, two traits especially impressed me. First, he is deeply passionate about giving back to his hometown of New Orleans. Second, he works incredibly hard on behalf of businesses that have a positive impact on the world. He is a wonderful addition to the team and we are excited about the value he will bring to our clients."

A native of New Orleans, Baus is a graduate of the Isidore Newman School and the University of Southern California, where he received his BS in Business Administration, with a Concentration in Financial Analysis, from the Marshall School of Business.

Additionally, Medora Ventures announced that this summer it will be hiring Medora Fellows to work with our team nationwide. Each Fellow will be assigned to a specific business segment and be responsible for their own projects and deliverables. Based on this experience, Fellows will develop the skills needed to begin their careers in one of these three areas:

  • Capital: We work with our clients on strategies that align with their values and we build collaborations with strategic partners to gain insights, mitigate risks, and ensure lasting gains.
  • Marketing: We unlock opportunities for growth by creating outreach strategies and developing connections into new markets and sectors.
  • Public Affairs: We help our clients measure and message their impact in the world, which sets them apart from competitors and builds customer loyalty.

Specific Fellowship assignments include:

Research and Analysis: Provide the leadership team with secondary research, analysis of reports, and the development of reports, pitch decks, and other presentations.

Operations: Assist with logistics, scheduling, communications, and other organization-wide management tasks by creating, planning, and executing strategic internal communications.

Knowledge Management: Manage data entry and integrity, ensure quality control across multiple platforms, and build strong and effective systems for knowledge management.

Business Development: Conduct research on potential funders, investors, and sales opportunities, learn to manage a robust CRM system, and prepare materials for meetings and proposals.

Strong candidates will possess the desire to learn about our business and our clients, while working with a diverse and remote team across the nation. Top candidates will possess proven analytical skills and will have a track record as strategic thinkers with respect to both creating innovative solutions to solve difficult problems and optimizing systems to drive improved processes.
